Camp Responsibility

This camp is  for the mutual benefit of all participants.  By centralizing some of our resources, we can create a container for social action bigger than ourselves.  All of us will be asked to contribute some energy towards the success of the camp.

Provided by the Camp:

Infrastructure:
    * Central Dome for Community Life (30' x 11')
    * Second large (Self-made!) Dome for dancing and     relaxing
    * Shade Cloths to Cover Tent Area
    * Kitchen
    * A Shower!

Food & Water:
    * Meal Plan: Two Hearty Meals Per Day
    * Meals will happen at 7a - 8a, and 7p - 8p
    * 2 gal per person per day for drinking and showering

Camp Layout

This is the rough schematic of Sukkat Shalom, it is likely to change quite a bit.

Moishe House

Sukkat Shalom was very much conceived in partnership and solidarity with Moishe House, who are financially supporting us this year.  Moishe House is an international network of residents who work to bring together young jews in their own community.  In this spirit, a portion of events hosted at Sukkat Shalom will aim to bring jews together from across the playa.  Read more here.

The Dome

We want to make our dome a home for us at Burning Man.  Please bring lights, tapestries, pillows and whatever you might want featured in our central space.  We can hang things from the inside, too!  We also have a second, larger dome being built on our own.  It's going to be 30' in diameter, and bitchin.  More info to come.

Camp Placement

We are placed at 7:30 and D.  We will not know more specifically than that until we arrive.  More on BRC layout.

Individual Responsibility

Of course, the camp cannot take take of every person's every need.  It is up to you to figure out what you will need to be comfortable at Burning Man beyond the provisions of the camp.  Read this page and check out  How to Prepare and  Tips for First Timers.

Suggestions for the Individual:

Infrastructure:
    * Bring your own tent, small dome, or RV.
       (I've seen it done with just a hammock and a tarp.)

Food:
    * Bring your own plate or bowl, cup and utencils.
    * Bring snacks to keep yourself going during the day.
    * SUKKAT SHALOM WILL PROVIDE A COOKED MEAL AND A BREAKFAST EACH DAY, EXCLUDING POSSIBLY FRIDAY AND SATURDAY WHEN DINNER WILL BE PREMADE.  There will often be leftovers available for lunch
    * Bring 2 gallons of water per person per day for drinking (Sukkat Shalom can't carry it all)

Clothing:
    * BRING GOGGLES AND A BANDANA OR FACEMASK.
        (When the wind blows, its REALLY dusty)
    * It gets desert HOT during the day (think 95 deg)
    * But it gets COLD during at night (think Winter)
    * Costume and flair.  If you haven't thought about costumes yet, get inspired.

Bicycle:
    * Bring your own if you're in driving distance OR buy one from Reno Bike Project  or The Kiwanis Club for $30 bikes.  Bikes are great to help get around, especially this year because the city is large.

Carry In, Carry Out

It is expected that you carry out every single thing you bring onto the playa.  Black Rock is the only city of 50,000 in the world without any public trash cans.  And the place is cleaner than most cities (minus the dust of course).  The cleanliness of powered by conscientiousness!
