Mission Statement

The mission of Sukkat Shalom is to "restore faith to those who sleep in the dust" (from the Amidah, or Staning Prayer).  In Black Rock City, everyone sleeps in the dust.  The purpose of Sukkat Shalom is to gather disparate sparks of Divine energy from around the playa and fan that into a raging 'fire'.  The energy of such a convergence may elevate our experience to more closely resemble a heavenly paradise.

While Burning Man can be experienced as a hedonic and aesthetic smash-up, the festival is also home to profound transformation.  The spirit of the festival leaves open a bold growth opportunity to engage creatively with oneself, with one's community and a broader society.  We hope to add a venue within Black Rock City in which any participant can stretch themselves, adopt new roles and connect with their higher selves.

Sukkat Shalom -- meaning a 'container of peace' in Hebrew -- will be a cozy home of exuberant campers dedicated to cultivating and spreading peace within ourselves, within Black Rock City and ultimately in our home environments.
